Here are the important 24 hour urine test instructions list.

  • Obtain a 24-hour urine collection container from your healthcare provider or laboratory.
  • Avoid excessive physical activity before and during the test.
  • Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or supplements you are taking.
  • Clearly label the urine container with your name, date of birth, and the start and end times of the collection period.
  • Begin the collection process in the morning upon waking.
  • Empty your bladder and discard the first urine.
    • Note the time; this marks the start of the 24 hours.
  • Collect all urine in the provided container for the next 24 hours.
  • Keep the urine container in a cool and dark place, such as a refrigerator, during the collection period.
  • Be careful not to contaminate the sample with toilet tissue, stool, or any other foreign material.
  • Finish the collection exactly 24 hours after the initial void. This includes the first void of the second day.
  • Empty your bladder one final time and collect this last void in the same container.
  • Securely seal the urine container after the final collection.
  • Make a note of any missed collections or other issues during the 24-hour to inform your healthcare provider.
  • Return the sealed urine container promptly to the laboratory.
