Medical laboratory technician courses

medical lab technician courses vary from college to college. Some colleges offer a six-month lab technician course. While some other colleges conduct courses for two years.

During the course, they cover all the basic books of the clinical laboratory. The book includes General anatomy, general physiology, lab SOP, Hematology, laboratory practice, and more.

Phlebotomy

This course enhances students’ knowledge about how to work in the laboratory and collect the specimen with all SOP’. It emphasizes venipuncture procedures, professionalism, and specimen processing.

Immunology

This course covers basic theory and concepts of antigen-antibody reactions and their impact on transfusion medicine. This course will cover the topics that include fundamental theories of blood group antigens, the genetics of inheritance, the formation of corresponding antibodies, and relevance to transfusion.

After its completion, a lab technician will perform basic blood bank procedures and select donors. In this course, students will be able to understand the Relationships of infection with immunity and specific serological methods for the diagnosis of disease.

Clinical Chemistry

In this course, students will know the basic principles and procedures of routine clinical chemistry such as different tests’ analyses, their correlation with results with pathology. In this course, students will come to know about QC (quality control). Students will learn routine procedures like glucose, Bilirubin, total protein, liver function test, RFT, SGPT using spectrophotometers, quality control. 

Clinical Microbiology

In this course, a lab technician will learn about microorganisms like bacteria, viruses. They will learn about the Isolation and identification of clinically significant pathogenic bacteria from all types of clinical specimens such as blood, urine, and stool. Serology procedures and an introduction to mycology and parasitology are also included in this course.

Clinical Practice

In this course Laboratory technician experience in all areas of an affiliated clinical laboratory such as Hematology, Microbiology, Histopathology for providing the opportunity to perform a variety of clinical procedures and develop technical skills.
